ELLIOT LORE

Growing up, I was surrounded by artists. My dad was a musician who owned a recording studio and my mom worked in the art department as a set decorator on major Hollywood films. Instead of throwing a football around, my friends and I enjoyed making art. In fourth grade, a few of us had an art show exhibiting our drawings at our local coffee shop. Soon, I would be introduced to the world of animation through stop-motion. For years, I was dedicated to making homemade animations mostly with legos, but sometimes with clay and cotton ball explosions. In 8th grade and throughout high school, I made a series of four educational animations for an English teacher at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Most recently, I fabricated props for a promotional video with the Slo Mo Guys.  Overall, my experience as a student at CU Boulder has been instrumental in providing a wide academic perspective that I plan on incorporating into my art. My art is inspired by surrealism and comes from a desire to create an imaginary world. My portfolio to date is a collection of images I simply enjoyed making. This process, working without an agenda, has allowed me to develop a unique aesthetic. Moving forward, I am increasingly interested in using animation to express the human experience. With the reality of AI-developed art, I am concerned about the future of art as we experience it today. In this artistic renaissance, it is crucial to hold on to the things that make art authentic. My goal is to make art using elements of the human experience, like philosophy and psychology, and in so doing, make something beyond what artificial intelligence can comprehend.
